Fishing Museum

Exhibition of fishing in Torne river

The Torne Valley Fishing Museum is located at Kukkolaforsen in Haparanda Sweden, in a cultural village surrounded by historical buildings managed by the city of Haparanda. The exhibition tells the story of fish and people along the Tornio River. The museum is open during the summer season. In winter, the museum is closed for spontaneous visits but can be opened for prebooked groups. Admission is free.

Fishing has been a central part of life in the region for centuries – providing food, livelihood, and playing a strong role in local culture. The museum offers a diverse look into fishing: the fish species of the Tornio River are presented through underwater videos, the history of fishing methods is explored from simple rods to large dam structures, and the impact of fishing on everyday life and celebrations is illustrated through visual materials.
