The Museum of Torne Valley
The Torne Valley Museum – Tornedalens museum is a museum focusing on the history and culture of the border region, located in the centre of Tornio, on the border between Finland and Sweden. As far as is known, the museum is the only museum in the world that is shared by two countries. The museum is a museum with regional responsibility, operating in the areas of the cities of Tornio, Haparanda and Kemi, as well as in the municipalities of Simo, Tervola, Keminmaa, Ylitornio, Pello, Kolari and Muonio. The museum offers a comprehensive overview of the life and traditions of the Torne Valley region, and especially the unique bilingual and bicultural identity of the border river region. The museum has both permanent exhibitions and changing themes that deal with the area from an archaeological, historical and cultural perspective.
The museum is in the centre of Tornio, right next to the library and the Aine Art Museum, close to the border. The address is Torikatu 4, Tornio. The museum is accessible to people with reduced mobility. The languages used in the exhibitions are Finnish, Swedish, English and Meänkieli.
